Advanced Dry Eye Treatments
In addition to over-the-counter and prescription eye drops, my dry eye clinic provides the following dry eye treatments.
Radio Frequency (RF)
Radiofrequency works by moving a hand held probe in gentle movements while energy is safely used to heat skin to a desired temperature.
When optimal heat is applied around the eyelids during the treatment, oil from the eyelid meibomian glands will flow easily. The improved oil flow will protect the tears from evaporating and will lubricate the eye surface during blinks. The heat will also stimulate collagen production.
RF treatments are pain free and have been used by dermatologists to reduced fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment serves a dual purpose to improve dry eye symptoms as well as skin rejuvenation for a more youthful appearance.
RF can be used on all skin tones.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy uses certain pulses of light of particular frequencies to reduce skin redness, pigmentation and inflammation.
When there is inflammation around the eyes (such in cases of rosacea), the eyes can become inflamed and dry as well. With each pulse of light, IPL reduces the level of inflammatory agents along the eyelid margin.
IPL also has a secondary mechanism where it heats and improves oil flow from the eyelid meibomian glands. The improved oil flow will protect the tears from evaporating and will lubricate the eye surface during blinks.
IPL can not be used on darker skin tones. Please consult with our clinic for more information.
Amniotic Membranes
Amniotic membranes are a form of stem cell therapy used for severely damaged corneas. If the cornea is damaged, vision will be be reduced.
When this dissolvable membrane is placed on an eye it will decrease inflammation, reduce risk of scars, and promote healing of the cornea.
If an eye is too dry, the cornea will become damaged. Amniotic membranes can be used to dramatically improve the health and clarity of the cornea. When used in combination with other advanced dry eye treatments, both eye comfort and vision can be improved greatly.
Amniotic membranes are not require for most dry eye patients. Please consult with our clinic for more information
